Jennifer Perkins started quilting in 1984 when her mother talked her into taking a Block of the Month quilt class by mail from her hometown in Overbrook, Kansas. With many phone calls home to the ones who actually took the class, she learned to quilt and loved it! You can see the Calendar Quilt result on the Gallery page, which includes the border she designed herself which added one year to the construction process.

She took Quilt Restoration classes from 1995-2000. She also took Museum Conservation for Quilts classes at the Ford Conservation Center in Omaha, NE. She started a Quilt Restoration business in 1996 and worked at that for 10 years. Now she is too busy to repair quilts for others, but is happy to teach others how to fix their own quilts.

In 1998 she took the AQS Appraisal class, and has appraised since 1999. She has taken classes in Insurance Value Appraisals, Beyond Insurance/Fair Market and Donation Appraisals, Hands-On Appraising, Dating Quilts, and Fabric Dating. She passed the tests leading to AQS certification in 2011.

In 1999 she took the NQA Judging class, and earned her certification as a judge in 2004, and Masterpiece Judge qualification in 2007. She was honored to judge the 2015 NQA show in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Jennifer is active in many guilds and quilt groups. For Iowa Quilters Guild she has served two terms as President and two terms as Program Chair. For PAAQT (Professional Association of Appraisers of Quilted Textiles) she served four years as Treasure, and four years as President. For Iowa Illinois Quilt Study Group she has served many years as Secretary/Treasurer. She also is an active member of NACQJ, AQS, AQSG where she has had two quilts picked to travel in challenges, Nebraska State Quilt Guild, and Omaha Quilters Guild.

Jennifer has had articles on Quilt Restoration published in three different McCall's magazines, the most recent one in Fall/Winter 2010-2011 called "10 Top Tips for Fixing Grandma's Scrap Quilt" in McCall's "America Loves Scrap Quilts." She has had a pattern for her "Golden Memories of an 1840s Quilt" quilt (see Gallery) published in the May 2001 Quilter's Newsletter Magazine. Her Irish Medallion quilt is pictured in the AQS 2018 Quilt Art engagement Calendar.
